Reimagine Your Rules

Renee Wagner

Autumn is just around the corner and that can only mean one thing!

No, I’m not talking about the start of college football season (Go Badgers!) or fewer hours of daily sunshine (boo hiss). I’m talking about the annual InRule User Community Meeting (IUCM)!

This year’s gathering of the IUC will take place in Chicago on Oct. 1-2 at the University of Chicago Gleacher Center. In addition, 2015 marks the second annual IUCMe in London, scheduled for Oct. 9 at the Royal Society for the Arts. As in years past, InRule is pleased to offer these events to our User Community at no charge.

A Quick Look Back

Last year was my first time attending IUCM and it was a pleasure to be part of the event. The two-day meeting was full of energy, excitement and engaging presentations from InRulians and User Community members alike. IUCM attendees agreed with me: In our post-event survey, 95 percent of respondents said that they would recommend the event to a colleague.

Looking Ahead

Post-IUCM 2014 survey feedback is playing a key role as we shape the content for this year’s events in Chicago and London. In addition to product and company updates, the agendas will include presentations from IUC members, sharing information and success stories about their InRule implementations.

New for 2015, Chicago IUCM attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Birds of a Feather roundtable session. This format will allow IUC members to specify in advance the topics that they want to discuss with other User Community members. The shared interest around the topics should lead to some passionate discussions and some valuable learning.

Attendees at both the Chicago and London events will be treated to a presentation by Jeffrey Fredrick, an internationally recognized expert on continuous integration who is on a mission to reduce suffering in software development. Jeff will present a talk called Frustrated? It’s Probably Your Fault – Uncertainty Changes the Rules.

Last but not least, many IUCM attendees find significant value in the optional training workshops put on by our ROAD team the morning before the sessions/presentations begin. ROAD workshops will take place from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm on Thursday, Oct. 1 in Chicago. This year, the advanced track will include content from our R&D team. For IUCMe attendees, we continue to grow the event and for this year we are considering adding training to the agenda on the afternoon of Thursday, Oct. 8. Registrants will be asked about their interest and availability for training as part of the IUCMe registration process.

(It Will Be) Nice to Meet You

While presenting valuable, thought-provoking content as part of the agenda is always on my mind as I work with my colleagues to plan IUCM and IUCMe, I’m also looking forward to meeting – and getting to know – members of our User Community. I’ll be at both events and am excited to not only put faces with names, but to hear your ideas about how we can provide you with even greater value at future InRule User Community Meetings.
