InRule SaaS Trial: REST Execution without Code

Dan Reynolds

So you’ve got your InRule SaaS Trial up and running. You’ve written some rules, tested them and stored them in the Catalog. The trial has a REST Execution service that can pull the rules from the Catalog for you, but you may be asking yourself, how do I call it? Of course, it is documented in the help file, but if you are like me, you may not have cracked it open yet. So how do us “self-starters” get this working?

InRule Labs developed the Rule Execution Console to allow you to try the REST Execution service – without requiring you to write code. The Rule Execution Console is a Single Page Application (SPA) that pulls your rules from your Catalog and runs the rules in your execution service.

The Rule Execution Console will display the feedback from the execution service in an easy-to-understand format, including the raw request that is sent to the service and the response that comes back. This can be very beneficial to developers who want to know what information to send in the request when it comes to calling the execution service from within their own applications.

To get started, go to You need to provide the Trial ID you were issued when you signed up for the trial. Next you need the execution API key, which is required to execute rules. The API key is available on the trial site home page. Finally, enter the same username and password that you use to log in to your Trial. Once logged in, you will be presented with a page that will allow you to pick the rules, enter some data and execute the rules.

The video below explains the functionality that is available in the Rule Execution Console and how to use it. If you have questions or feedback, please feel free to email me at If you haven’t yet requested a free trial of our SaaS offering, you can do so here.
